Identity

 by Julio Noboa Polanco

 Let them be as flowers,
always watered, fed, guarded, admired,
but harnessed to a pot of dirt.

I'd rather be a tall, ugly weed,
clinging on cliffs, like an eagle
wind-wavering above high, jagged rocks.

To have broken through the surface of stone,
to live, to feel exposed to the madness
of the vast, eternal sky.
To be swayed by the breezes of an ancient sea,
carrying my soul, my seed,
beyond the mountains of time or into the abyss of the bizarre.

I'd rather be unseen, and if
then shunned by everyone,
than to be a pleasant-smelling flower,
growing in clusters in the fertile valley,
where they're praised, handled, and plucked
by greedy, human hands.

I'd rather smell of musty, green stench
than of sweet, fragrant lilac.
If I could stand alone, strong and free,
I'd rather be a tall, ugly weed
.

The Rose That Grew From Concrete

Did you hear about the rose that grew

from a crack in the concrete?

Proving nature's law is wrong it

learned to walk with out having feet.

Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams,

it learned to breathe fresh air.

Long live the rose that grew from concrete

when no one else ever cared.

The Identity poem is basically a extended metaphor. Julio basically compares him self to a tall ugly weed saying that if he could stand alone, strong and free, he would rather be a tall ugly weed.Basically Julio wanted to be different form everyone else.By doing this he took a big risk in his life. But as i mentioned before when Julio said he would rather be a tall ugly weed he was basically saying he wish he could be free.

The Identity poem is an extended metaphor. Julio talks about how he would rather be an tall ugly weed what he means by that is he wants to be free he does not want to be clustered like an flower in a flower pot. Julio took risk in his life because he wated to be different and free. Takeing risk in his life made him different from free people. The free people are the flowers in the flower pot.

The Identity poem is an interesting poem. Its an Extended metaphor about how Julio would rather be a Ugly smelly Weed hanging on the edge of a cliff rather than a pretty flower in a flower pot. The meaning is that Julio wants to be different and free and on his own rather than be like everyone else and stuck in the same place.

The Identity poem is an extended metaphor. It talks about standing out from the crowd even if it means you are alone and ugly. Julio talks about being a weed rather than a flower, living on the egde of life rather than safe, trapped in a pot. he would rather smell of filth than have a sweet, fragrant aroma. He doesnt want to be pruned and gawked over, eventually picked by "greedy human hands", he wants to stand tall and free.

The Indentity poem is a great poem. It is also an extended metaphor that tells a story of a boy named Julio who would rather be a ugly weed than a beatiful flower gowing tall. He wanted to be different from other people and didnt care what they thought. He wanted to not been seen rather than be just like everyone else.

The Identity poem is a very good poem. it is a extended metaphor that talk about a plant the want to be diffrent from the rest. the plant want to be an independent plant. a plant that can stand on its own and not be like everyone else.for example wanting to be ugly rather than be a good looking tall plant.

the Identity poem is a straight poem. It talk's about it self tryna breath and be free insted of being in a leaf pot being clustered by other flowers. It also an extended metaphor that tells a story of a boy named julip who woulsd rather be a ugly weed than a butifle flower growing tall. It wants to be free living life in the fast lane.

The poem is very good. It's a from extended metaphor. In this poem he compares life to nature. Saying that he would rather be an ugly tall weed than a flower. To me that means he would want to be free and not the center of attention.

This is a great poem by Julio. I think he was trying to say that he does not want to be like everyone else. He does not want to follow the path that everyone else takes. He wants to be free in his own way by not doing what people tell him to do. Instead of being a beautiful flower confined to a flower pot. He'd rather be a tall, ugly weed that is free to go where it wants.
